Parking
Parking is available in a limited number of designated visitor spots at the front and side of the Tennessee State Library and Archives building. Visitors CANNOT park in the NUMBERED spots around the building; these spots are reserved Monday - Friday and unauthorized cars will be ticketed and / or towed. On Saturdays, these numbered spots are not reserved and may be used by visitors to the library. Additional parking is available in public lots throughout downtown. Many of the lots are within a few blocks' walking distance to TSLA.

TSLA visitor parking on the street near our building is limited. Visitors may wish to use one of the for-profit lots downtown. The web page Visitor's Guide: Parking describes the lots closest to the TSLA building.

Registration & Security
All TSLA patrons are required to present a state or federal ID card (such as a drivers license) when entering the building. The patron will be issued a registration card. When entering and leaving the building, patrons will present their briefcase, bag, backpack, purse, and / or notebook for examination by the guard. Lockers are available for storage of patrons' belongings during their visit. We are not responsible for items left unattended in the reading rooms. Visitors using original manuscripts will be required to leave their belongings in a locker.
Backpacks are not allowed into the main area of TSLA and must be stored in a locker. If a backpack is too large to fit in a locker, then it must either be locked in the patron's vehicle or stored in the main lobby while using TSLA materials.

Computers, Laptops, and Scanning Devices
Internet access is available on the computers in our Central Reading Room.  A 30 minute time limit may be imposed if other patrons are waiting.  Additional guidelines are posted by the computers.

Personal laptops may be used in the building.

Cameras are permitted only in the open access areas of Public Service, not in the Archives and Manuscripts Reading Area.

At the discretion of the Librarian on duty, scanners may be allowed in the Tennessee Reading Room and the Legislative History Reading Room, but NOT in the Manuscripts Reading Area. Items are considered on a case-by-case basis depending upon condition, copyright, and donor restrictions.
